Student well-being is central to our focus at St. Brigid’s College. Staff work with parents, students and external agencies in the community in order for students to realise their abilities, take care of their physical and mental wellbeing, cope with the normal stresses of life, and have a sense of purpose and belonging to a wider community. Students are facilitated in developing lifelong learning skills in order to be more resilient and independent both through the curriculum and extra-curricular activities.
Well-being in the Curriculum
Well-being at Junior Cert is facilitated through the curriculum in S.P.H.E., C.S.P.E., R.E. and P.E. At Senior Cycle well-being is facilitated in the curriculum through R.S.E., P.E. and Guidance.
Well-being and Extra-Curricular Events
St. Brigid’s College has a dedicated well-being committee consisting of members of the board of management, parents, students and teachers. This committee meet on a regular basis to co-ordinate extra-curricular activities and events to promote well-being.
Regular events can be viewed on our extra-curricular calendar. A dedicated well-being week takes place during the last week in September. The focus is to remind students how to look after themselves for the year ahead. Guest speakers from external agencies visit the school and facilitate workshops during this week as well as other times throughout the year. Topics covered in these specialised workshops include internet safety, healthy food, exercise and substance misuse.
