Transition Year at St. Brigid's College 2019/20

Reminder: Four weeks of work experience takes place during Transition Year. You should try to find work in an area that you are interested in, enjoy and might like to study in college. You are encouraged to spend one week doing voluntary work in your local community/area.

It is imperative that you book and confirm your work experience with your employer. Garda Vetting is required if you are over 16 years of age and will be working with children or vulnerable adults. Forms are available from Ms. Flanagan. Please allow 6 weeks for the vetting forms to be approved.

The TY Work Experience dates for 2019/20 are as follows:

  • 11th - 15th November 2019
  • 2nd - 6th March 2020
  • 18th - 29th May 2020

  • TY2 Self-defence: 18th September
  • Senior Debating Meeting: 19th September (13:15 in room 1)
  • Musical Auditions: 19th and 20th September
  • TY Talk (Irish Society for Autism): 20th September (11:30 in room 13)
  • Erasmus Programme Meeting: 20th September at 14:00
  • TY Talk (Loughrea Credit Union): 23rd September

Youth Services in Loughrea:

  • Youth Work Galway offer a free counselling service to help young people deal with: anxiety; relationships; family issues; peer pressure; substance abuse; mental health; self harm; isolation and/or school pressure. This is available at the Resource Centre, Piggott Street, Loughrea. Visit for further details
  • The Loughrea Youth Project works with young people in a safe and supportive environment at the Temperance Hall Building, Barrack Street, Loughrea. Students can meet and socialise with peers and enjoy fun activities. Arts and crafts, drama, health and fitness, hip-hop, a DJ group, the Comhairle na nÓg Youth Committee and Youth exchange are some of the activities run by the group which helps to empower the young people to identify and realise their own potential.
