PhD Graduates

Dr. Brian Sheil graduated from St. Brigid’s College in 2006 and was awarded an entrance scholarship to study Civil Engineering at National University of Ireland, Galway. After graduating with First Class honours, he returned to NUIG to pursue a PhD in Geotechnical Engineering funded by a four-year university fellowship. Brian Sheil is now a Lecturer in Engineering Science at the University of Oxford where he lectures on structures, mechanics, and dynamics, and conducts research in the area of underground construction.
Dr. Conor Sheil completed his Leaving Certificate in St. Brigid’s College in 2008 and was awarded an entrance scholarship to National University of Ireland, Galway. He completed his B.Sc. in Physics and Applied Physics in 2012 with 1st class honours. Subsequently, he was awarded an Irish Research Council Scholarship for a PhD in Optics, from which he graduated in Nov 2016. Dr. Conor Sheil is now a research scientist in photonics at NUIG.
