At St Brigid’s College we have a thriving music department that nurtures a love of all styles of music in each of our students. All aspects of the Junior Certificate and Leaving Certificate Music programmes are taught and all students have the opportunity to participate in the many music related extra-curricular activities available.
Junior Cycle Music
All incoming 1st year students get the opportunity to experience music at St. Brigid’s College in a 4-week sampling programme. Following this, students who choose to take music, study the subject to Junior Certificate level.
The curriculum comprises of Performance (25%) and Listening and Composing (75%). Students are actively encouraged to explore a range of musical genres and to advance their skills and confidence as both solo and group performers.
TY Music
All of our transition year students study music. They have the opportunity to experience modules like Music In Film, Music Since the 1950’s as well as music technology. They gain experience and develop their social interaction through performances with the school choir, orchestra and traditional Irish music group throughout the year.
Leaving Certificate Music
Students who choose music at Leaving Certificate level further develop their study of composition, listening and performance. At senior cycle our students decide on an elective, where 50% of their exam goes towards one of the three main sections of the curriculum. Students can choose music technology as part of their elective, using programs like Sibelius, Finale Notepad and MuseScore.
