St Brigid’s Loughrea beat Elphin Community College on a score line of 2-1 to win the All Ireland Final.
In the group stages they beat Drumshambo VS 25-7, Colaiste na hinse Dublin 25-14 and Sutton Park Dublin 25-16.
In the quarter finals Dungarvan College gave St Brigid’s a good scare with Brigids having to dig deep winning the game 25-19. In the semi-final Sutton Park Dublin were looking for revenge and it was a very even game with some excellent serving from Eoin Quinn and Lorcan Leahy and some excellent hitting from Ciagan Davoren bringing the match to a 25-19 and a very close 25-23 second set.
In the final Brigids were slow to get out of the blocks allowing Elphin to get into a lead we never got back. But in the second set Brigids started to play some very good volleyball with excellent defending and great attacking play by all players. The service game in the final was excellent with only 5 missed serves with Daniel Ukaga, Lorcan Leahy and Ciagan Davoren causing big problems for Elphin. Volleyball is a team sport where all 9 members are needed but special mention must go to Daniel Ukaga who was presented with the most valuable player of the match.
